Gov't laid foundation stone for new Gemanafushi mosque

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced the laying of the foundation stone for the new mosque in Gemanafushi, Gaafu Alifu Atoll. Minister of State for Islamic Affairs Abdulla Saudhan laid the foundation stone at a ceremony.

Evoson Maldives Private Limited was awarded the construction of the Gemanafushi mosque in August 2023. The mosque is funded by the state budget with over USD6.5 million and will accommodate 300 worshippers. The project has a deadline of 365 days for completion and will include facilities for both men and women.

The Islamic Ministry clarified that the government has not made substantial payments to mosque construction companies nationwide. Instead, payments were made to initiate the projects promptly. Efforts are underway to address the poor condition of existing mosques across the Maldives.
