First session of training for Imams and Khateebs begin

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced the commencement of the National Project for Refreshing Imams and Khateebs. The training programme kicked off in Gemanafushi, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, with 77 Imams from the southernmost islands of the Maldives participating in the first session.

The Islamic ministry stated that the National Project for Refreshing Imams and Khateebs is a programme aimed at enhancing the skills of permanent imams across 11 regions through additional training. The training sessions span four days each and cover a total of nine subjects.

The objective of the programme is to provide training to imams, equipping them with advanced knowledge in various areas, including Quran, Tajweed, Tafsir, Fiqh, Hadith, and Aqeedah, while also focusing on enhancing their understanding of mosque management. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the capabilities of imams to effectively fulfill their responsibilities.

The government has set a target to train 700 imams by the end of the year through the initiative.
