Third edition of Savaadheehtha yacht rally begins

The 3rd edition of the Savaadheehtha Yacht Rally, featuring its inaugural equator-crossing route, has kicked off to promote local tourism and showcase the rich history and culture of the Maldives. Organised by the Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC), the Savaadheetha Dhathuru series is a testament to the country's over 2,000-year-old heritage.

Themed "Maldives - A Small Country with a Big Heart," the Savaadheetha Journey 2024 commenced in Kudagiri, Kaafu Atoll, and is set to traverse various atolls, including Fulidhoo, Vaavu Atoll, Muli, Meemu Atoll, Gan, Laamu Atoll, Fonadhoo, Laamu Atoll, Kolamaafushi, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Hoandehdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Hithadhoo, and Gan in Seenu Atoll.

The launch ceremony was attended by Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal, Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, government officials, and dignitaries from the tourism industry.

Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Fathimath Thaufeeq, emphasised the commitment to environmental protection in marketing Maldives's tourism, emphasizing sustainable practices.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of MITDC, Shiuna Khalid, highlighted the unique features of the journey during the ceremony, emphasizing that participants will get a firsthand experience of Maldives' history and local life.

Scheduled from February 10-29, the Savaadheetha Journey 2024 includes 55 participants from 10 yachts, representing countries such as Australia, UK, UAE, France, and Finland. This year's rally promises a distinctive experience by crossing two major seas and the equator for the first time. The grand finale will be celebrated with a gala night during the closing ceremony in Addu City.
