The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has disclosed that 33.4% of the Thilamale' Bridge project has been successfully completed. Ministry officials recently conducted an inspection of the ongoing progress of the bridge, a project undertaken by the Indian-based Afcons Infrastructure Limited.
Initiated in 2022, the Greater Male' Connectivity Bridge faced a slower pace of construction due to an extended deadline set by the previous government. Concerns were raised about the project's speed, prompting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to personally assess the site and express his worries. Following the visit, the president reaffirmed the government's dedication to expediting the project and highlighted ongoing discussions with the contracted company. Additionally, he urged the Indian government to ensure the completion of the bridge by 2025.
Subsequently, the ministry has prioritised addressing the challenges encountered during the project. As such, State Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and the Ministry's engineering team inspected the progress of the Thilamale' Bridge Project, specifically focusing on the work between Villimale' and Gulhifalhu.
Minister of State for the Construction Ministry, Ibrahim Thoam, reported that 54% of the piling work for the bridge has been completed, marking an overall project completion of 33%, surpassing the schedule by 1.2%. The State Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to address project challenges and ensure seamless continuation of the work.
The government's target is to complete the Thilamale Bridge by 2025 or early 2026. The extensive project includes three bridges, a causeway, and a road network spanning over 6.7 km. Additionally, it involves the development of interchange points and parking zones at each connection stop.
