The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has reported that over 1,250 individuals have applied for re-registration for the upcoming parliamentary election.
The opportunity for re-registration will remain open until 1600hrs from February 1-7. Those interested in re-registering in a different location or island than initially registered during the second round of the presidential election can apply within this specified timeframe. Moreover, individuals initially registered in resorts, abroad, industrial sites, and prisons will now have their registration transferred to their permanent addresses.
Ismail Habeeb, the Vice President of ECM, stated that 1,257 people have applied for re-registration, with 1,060 successfully re-registered, while 197 applications were rejected for various reasons.
Since re-registration process is conducted online, those facing difficulties in submitting their forms online are encouraged to visit the ECM Headquarters in Dharubaaruge, where ECM staff will provide assistance.
ECM has provided options for checking registered voter information through its website and by sending a message to 1414. Applications for re-registration, particularly for a different place of residence, can only be submitted through the commission's online re-registration portal. In Male' City, online registration will be available at the Dharubaaruge.
For online submissions through the re-registration portal, applicants must include a copy of an official document verifying their status as a voter. ECM emphasised that re-registration forms can be submitted through the eFaas application, exempting applicants from the requirement to provide a photograph or images of both sides of the ID card.
As per ECM, 20,848 people re-registered for the 2019 parliamentary elections.
