India commits to withdraw troops from Maldives by May 10

India has affirmed its commitment to withdraw its troops from Maldives by May 10.

Withdrawal of Indian military presence within the Maldives is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The Maldives government had officially mandated the withdrawal of Indian troops by March 15.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that during the High-Level Core Group meeting between the two nations in New Delhi, an agreement was reached to withdraw one contingent of Indian troops from three aviation platforms of Maldives by March 10, with the complete will complete replacing military personnel in the other two platforms by May 10.

During the meeting held at the India's Ministry of External Affairs both sides reviewed the existing bilateral cooperation for improving and enhancing the partnership in the fields of defense and security cooperation, economic, and development partnership.

Additionally, it was agreed that the third meeting of the High-Level core Group will be held in Male’ on a mutually agreeable date during the last week of February.
