Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal has stated that the government expects 2.3 million tourist arrivals this year, based on the current figures. He made the remark at the ceremony held to launch a plan to develop skills and create opportunities for young people in coding.
At the ceremony, Minister Faisal said the youth have the talent and skills to pursue coding but that the lack of opportunity has made it difficult for those interested to pursue this field. However, he expressed confidence that young people will have more opportunities in emerging tech fields and would lead to the growth of the Maldivian tourism industry.
Additionally, Minister Faisal said the new administration will focus more on empowering the youth than any previous government, leading to significant improvements to the economy. He also said one of the sectors that will benefit the most is the tourism industry, and that the tourism ministry will also provide opportunities to those who want to advance in the industry.
Furthermore, Minister Faisal said the government expects 2 million tourist arrivals this year with the work being carried out with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). However, he said that tourist arrivals will reach 2.3 million if the Chinese and Indian markets are maintained.
Moreover, Minister Faisal said he hopes to introduce a world-renowned application dedicated to promoting tourism in the Maldives soon. He noted the huge benefits to the tourism industry from the online marketing efforts and said that training young people to code will lead to growth of the tourism industry. He also said that the government will create opportunities for young people in the business sector, adding that efforts will be made to provide opportunities for them to participate in world famous online platformed, which will benefit the youth as well as the economy.
