Gov't prepares to begin Thinadhoo-Kaadedhdhoo bridge project

The government is preparing to begin the development of a bridge to connect Thinadhoo and Kaadedhdhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The government has begun the process of finding a consultant to conduct the surveys.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to develop the Kaadedhdhoo Airport to international standards and connect it to Thinadhoo via a bridge. The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure stated that the bridge project will be carried out at the government's expense.

The ministry is seeking a consultant to conduct the preliminary survey, assessments and feasibility study of the bridge. The consultant will be chosen based on the quality and cost of the work.

The length of the bridge between Thinadhoo and Kaadedhdhoo is estimated to be between 3km and 3.5km. The terms of reference also state that a highway link road may need to be included in addition to the bridge.

The opportunity to submit bids will be opened on January 31 at 1200hrs. The ministry stated that shortlisted companies will be invited to submit proposals.

According to the terms of reference, the purpose of the bridge is to provide safer traffic between Thinadhoo and Kaadedhdhoo. The bridge is also intended to reduce the time it takes to transport people and goods between islands.
