Gov't signs MOUs to build mosques with grants

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with three companies to construct mosques in the Greater Male' Region through grants.

The signing ceremony took place at the Islamic Centre Hall in Male' City. The contracts were signed with Aleem Foundation, LISA Maldives Private Limited, and SJ Construction Private Limited. Aleem Foundation and LISA Maldives are set to build a mosque in Hulhumale', while SJ Construction has signed the contract for the construction of the three-storey Zikura Mosque.

Following the signing ceremony, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed revealed ongoing discussions with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to allocate land for the mosques outlined in the agreements. The minister expressed hope for the completion of the mosque within a two-year timeframe.

Additionally, Minister Shaheem underscored the importance of private companies engaging in mosque construction and emphasised the role of individuals with the means to support mosque repairs and various Quran classes nationwide. He also said that the ministry is closely monitoring mosques under construction in Hulhumale' Phase II, assuring that all ongoing projects would be finished within the next year. He also said that a mosque which can accommodate 1,500 worshippers, is set to be completed by Ramadan.
