Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim has expressed commitment to solve issues related to water service and waste management in Addu City. He made the statement in an interview with PSM News during his visit to Addu.
In the interview, Minister Thoriq emphasised the importance of monitoring the waste management process in Addu, considering it an important responsibility of the ministry. He also acknowledged the importance of providing proper water and electricity services to the residents. He noted the challenges in projects carried out by Fenaka Corporation Limited and pledged to investigate and resolve the issues. He also talked about ongoing initiatives in Addu, including the implementation of water supply and sewerage systems, as well as the development of nature parks and biosphere reserves.
Additionally, Minister Thoriq highlighted the reliance on a single water plant for providing water services to the connected islands of Addu. He emphasised the potential for a water shortage and assured that the ministry is seeking solutions to ensure uninterrupted 24-hour water services for Addu.
Furthermore, Minister Thoriq said that the ministry's visit to Addu aims to assess the current situation, engage with various institutions and address concerns. He emphasised the importance of delivering services promptly through government and state-owned enterprises to meet the needs of the residents.
