Maldives accepts Co-Chair of APAP

Maldives has accepted the Co-Chair of Asia Protected Areas Partnership (APAP).

The symbolic plaque representing the new responsibility was handed over to Maldives during the closing ceremony of the Maldives Protected and Conserved Areas Forum 2024, jointly organised by the ministry and the United Kingdom's Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP).

The representative plaque was handed over to Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim by Regional Director for Asia and Hub Oceania of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Dindo Campilan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Thoriq expressed that receiving the Co-Chairmanship of APAP is an honor to Maldives adding Maldives aspires to expand the partnership on all frontiers of conservation.

APAP was formed in 2013 as a key platform to help governments and other stakeholders collaborate for more effective management of protected areas in the region.
