Minister of Health Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has inaugurated a special clinic for the elderly and a service that allows them to make memos at home instead of coming to the hospital.
At the inauguration ceremony, Minister Khaleel said the opening of a special clinic and home-based memo submission will enhance convenance for the elderly. He affirmed that the clinic will focus on providing excellent healthcare services to the elderly.
Additionally, Minister Khaleel highlighted that expanding the clinic's services to all parts of the country is a pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. As such, he said the ministry is in talks with other neighboring countries to expand the service.
Furthermore, Minister Khaleel said the government will provide more opportunities to health professionals and those who want to pursue an education in geriatric care. The health ministry is also in discussions with education providers such as the Maldives National University to provide training for these services. He noted that there are health professionals who want to work on geriatric care and urged them to let their elderly patients feel compassionate and cared for when providing health services.
Also at the ceremony, CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem highlighted the higher number of elderly people in the Maldives compared to the youth. He expressed confidence that this is just the beginning of establishing an internal medicine or OPD for the elderly.
Additionally, the CEO praised the new administration for making tremendous progress in the health sector in the past two months. He said the President working hard to develop the health sector and expand and strengthen the services provided in the Maldives.
