Maldives orders withdrawal of Indian troops by March 15

The Maldives has ordered the withdrawal of Indian troops by March 15.

At a press conference, Principal Secretary to the President Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim shared information on the Cabinet's decision regarding the issue. He said the Cabinet has received the latest information on the Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives, highlighting that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been working to withdraw Indian troops since the first day he assumed office.

The two countries have held 12 meetings on the issue so far. In a document submitted to the meeting on January 14, President Muizzu instructed the Indian government to withdraw its troops from the Maldives by March 15. The meeting was attended by the Indian ambassador, joint secretary and senior officials of the Indian government, while the Maldives was represented by senior officials from the President's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
