Minister of Climate, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has inaugurated the third edition of the National Build Expo.
The expo is being heldfrom 1500hrs-2200hrs at Central Park, Hulhumale', until January 14. The expo aims to expand and promote the range of services and products available in the construction industry. It also aims to be a central hub and platform for construction companies to showcase raw materials, heavy machinery and other construction-related products. More than 70 companies are participating in the expo, showcasing their construction industry-related services and products to the public.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Thoriq said the construction industry is important for the smallest projects to the largest projects such as airport development. He also cited statistics from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), which shows that 15 resorts and 323 guesthouses have been developed in the past few years. He said the Ministry of Finances estimates that the construction industry is expected to grow by 7.7% annually for the next three years.
Additionally, Minister Thoriq said the construction and the ministry can work together to identify environmentally friendly construction methods and address environmental issues during construction. He also highlighted the ministry's project to plant five million trees in five years with the aim of preserving the country's fragile environment.
