Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Aslam has shared insights into the Maldives' initiatives against climate change at the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth in Kampala, Uganda.
During his address at the conference, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam spoke about the current environmental situation in the Maldives, stressing that the country is among those most adversely affected by global climate and sea level changes. Aslam also highlighted the national endeavors to combat climate change and environmental damage, shedding light on the challenges faced in these efforts.
In his speech, he underscored the crucial role of the Parliament in safeguarding the environment and outlined the Maldives' path towards becoming a net-zero country by 2030.
On the sidelines of the conference, Aslam held discussions with Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena. Both leaders acknowledged the 50-year-old political relationship between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, exploring opportunities for future cooperation across various fields to strengthen bilateral relations.
Aslam also engaged in talks with Ugandan Parliament SpeakerUgandan Parliament Speake Anita Among, focusing on enhancing legislative relations between the two nations.
Having commenced his visit on January 1, the President of the Parliament, Mohamed Aslam, is scheduled to conclude the conference and return to Male' on January 8.
