Gov't prepared to handover Hulhumeedhoo bridge project design work

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has announced preparations for the handover of technical and detailed feasibility and design work required for the construction of a bridge linking Hulhumeedhoo to the rest of Addu City.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu pledged to build a bridge connecting Hulhumeedhoo to the rest of Addu City during his campaign. He assured his supporters that he would bring to reality the bridge project connecting Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo. His administration has included the bridge project in the Week 14 roadmap and USD2 million has been allocated in the state budget for the project.

Minister Muththalib has provided an update on the Hulhumeedhoo bridge project, disclosing that work commenced within the initial 14 weeks of the administration. He stated that the technical aspects, including feasibility and design, will be handed over soon, aiming for completion within the 14-week timeframe. The exact cost will be determined upon the completion of the project.

President Dr. Muizzu, reiterating his commitment, announced that he will oversee the handover of the technical and detailed feasibility and design work for the bridge project. He said that the step is expected to expedite the selection of a contractor and the completion of all necessary documentation for the handover of the project.

Addu consists of four islands with Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo particularly far apart from the rest of the islands. The residents were promised by previous governments that Addu would be developed into a city in the full sense of the word by connecting Hulhumeedhoo to the other islands with a bridge, but the project never commenced until this administration.
