Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has stated that City Waqf and Atoll Waqf will foster Islam in the Maldives. He made the remark at the ceremony held to inaugurate City Waqf and Atoll Waqf.
Increasing the endowments received as Waqf and using it to increase the expenditure on religious activities, help underprivileged families and spending the funds on education and health is an important vision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. In this regard, the City Waqf and the Atoll Waqf have been inaugurated to increase the number of Waqf buildings in different parts of the country.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Shareef said that various Waqf-related initiatives were carried out during the sultanate of the Maldives. As such, he expressed confidence that the inauguration of City Waqf and Atoll Waqf will increase the importance given to religious matters, foster Islam in the Maldives and benefit the atolls as well.
Also at the ceremony, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said numerous islands have expressed interest in Waqf-related projects. In addition, the ministry stated that Waqf buildings in the cities and atolls will benefit the local councils and that numerous Waqf-related projects will commence early this year.
