Training of young imams to be completed before Ramadan

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that the training of young imams will be completed before the month of Ramadan.

Minister Shaheem said that 100 young people have expressed interest in becoming imams and that they will be interviewed next week. He detailed that applicants in the Greater Male' Region will be interviewed in person while those in the atolls will be interviewed online.

Additionally, Minister Shaheem said that each applicant will be tasked with reading the Quran during the interview as well as reciting a sermon of their choice on the ministry's website. In addition, applicants will receive the opportunity to participate in a training programme. Those in the atolls will be able to join the programme online.

Applicants will be given training on mosque management, the fundmanentals of delivering sermons, managing funeral matters, imam’s ethics, the role of the mosque and the jurisprudence of prayer.
