President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has asserted the government is committed to shaping and completing initiatives to safeguard people's property, lives, businesses, and overall well-being from disasters. Speaking in an interview with PSM News following the inspection of rain-damaged homes, President emphasised the need for comprehensive improvements.
During the inspection visit, President was accompanied by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Lateef and several Cabinet ministers.
After personally visiting rain-affected houses in Male' city, the President acknowledged ongoing efforts to upgrade the stormwater system. However, he mentioned that he does not believe the current project is suitable. Therefore, he announced plans to upgrade all city roads, integrating a robust stormwater system with a substantial pipeline and powerful pumping mechanism.
Moreover, the president highlighted the government's commitment to fortify the entire disaster management system and implement effective measures promptly.
Acknowledging the health concerns arising from the rains, especially sewage-related issues in some homes, President Dr. Muizzu assured assistance to affected households, aiming for a swift and permanent resolution.
He further appreciated collaborative efforts among relevant ministries, the Malé City Council, the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), and Maldives Police Service (MPS) to provide assistance to rain-affected citizens. The president affirmed the ongoing evacuation efforts, emphasising the government's dedication to supporting affected individuals.
