Three houses evacuated in Guraidhoo due to torrential rain

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has revealed that three houses have been evacuated in Guraidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, due to torrential rain.

NDMA has received damage reports from five islands, which are Nilandhoo in Faafu Atoll, Guraidhoo in Kaafu Atoll, Gan and Fonadhoo in Laamu Atoll, and Maradhoo in Addu City. The authority stated that military and police officers and local councils are working together to respond to reports of flooding. In addition, sandbags are being placed in Male' City to prevent houses from being flooded.

Continual rainfall has caused flooding on five islands in Addu City, affecting 97 houses. Meanwhile, 15 houses in Fuvahmulah City were affected by flooding.

The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued an orange alert for the region from Kaafu Atoll to Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. The Met Office stated that torrential rain and thunderstorms with possible flooding are expected in this region. NDMA has urged individuals to take the necessary precautions to prevent further damage due to the worsening weather condition.
