The Ministry of Tourism has revealed that India has become the top source market for tourist arrivals in the Maldives.
The statistics from the tourism ministry show that India claimed the highest market share in 2022, initially ranking as the second largest contributor at the beginning of this year. India has once again secured its position as the top source market for tourist arrivals in the Maldives with 205,278 arrivals as of December 25. Russia, which held the leading position at the start of the year, is now the second largest contributor with 203,539 arrivals. The third highest contributor is China with 184,152 tourists, and the fourth largest contributor is the United Kingdom (UK) with 152,284 arrivals.
The statistics also show that 1.8 million tourists have visited the Maldives this year, which is a 12.4% increase compared to the same period last year, which saw 1.6 million tourists. Currently, the Maldives has 1,140 tourist establishments in operation, offering a total of 61,273 beds, including resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and liveaboards.
The Maldives achieved a milestone by surpassing last year's record with the welcoming of the 1.8 millionth tourist last week.
