Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives in a single day so far this year was recorded on December 23.
The latest statistics published by the tourism ministry show that 8,054 arrivals were recorded on December 23, marking the peak in daily tourist visits for this year. The previous record for single-day arrivals this year was on February 11 with 8,024 visits.
Prior to this year, the highest number of daily tourist arrivals were recorded in 2019 with 9,000 visits. The statistics also show that 1.8 million tourists have visited the Maldives this year, which is a 12.4% increase compared to the same period last year, which saw 1.6 million tourists.
The statistics also show that the largest number of tourists visited from Russia with 200,894 arrivals while 200,744 tourists visited from India, 184,152 visited from China and 149,115 tourists visited from the United Kingdom (UK), and 129,915 visited from Germany. In addition, a total of 1,140 tourist establishments are open in the Maldives, consisting of 61,273 beds. They include resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and liveaboards.
The Maldives has surpassed last year's record by welcoming the 1.8 millionth tourist last week.
