President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with some leaders of key political parties. The meetings took place separately at the President’s Office.

As such, President Muizzu met with the leader of the Jumhooree Party (JP) Qasim Ibrahim, President of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, President of the Maldives National Party (MNP) Mohamed Nazim, and President of the Democrats Hassan Latheef.

Their discussions centered on working together to improve the nation and emphasised the significance of working for the betterment of the community. The political leaders affirmed that they would provide full support and cooperation to the government on various issues, including the country's peace and tranquility, various development projects undertaken by the government, and prioritising national interests in domestic and foreign affairs.

Throughout the meetings, President Muizzu stressed that the ideas and perspectives of all political parties were crucial to the administration’s operations and expressed hope that such meetings would continue in the future.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, JP Leader Qasim spoke on the current issue in Parliament concerning the approval of the cabinet. He said the Parliament is constitutionally obligated to approve the cabinet ministers if they meet the legal requirements and that it was also in the interest of the nation to do so.

Regarding the withdrawal of Indian military personnel, Qasim noted that the issue of foreign military presence in the Maldives had not been resolved in the last three governments. However, he expressed confidence that President Muizzu will do as he pledged and remove them from the country.

Meanwhile, MNP President Nazim said his party will work as a coalition with the government in the upcoming elections, including the 2024 parliamentary election. As such, he said that he discussed with the President how MNP would work with the main ruling party in the upcoming election and support the government as a coalition partner.
