The government has mandated that O Level students must sit for examinations in four compulsory subjects, with the government covering the associated costs. The Ministry of Education detailed the new arrangement in a circular sent to schools.
In the circular, the ministry stated that students taking the O Level examination have to participate in four compulsory subjects, which the government will pay for. The compulsory subjects are Islamic studies, Dhivehi Language, English Language, and Mathematics. The O Level students are required to take five exams in total while students in B.Tech will also be required to sit for Islam, Dhivehi, English, and math exams.
The education ministry stated that the decision was made to ensure that every student who graduates from schools in the Maldives has achieved the required level of education. Previously, Grade 10 students have to pay for the subjects they fail in the mock examination while the government pays for the subjects that they pass.
