Fenaka resolves Addu water plant issue

Fenaka Corporation Limited has revealed the resolution of the technical issue affecting its water plant in Addu City.

In a statement, Fenaka stated that the interruption in water service across connected islands of Addu was attributed to an electricity supply issue to the water pump. Fenaka confirmed the successful resolution of the water supply issue, with the water plant now back in operation.

Additionally, Fenaka mentioned issues such as the lack of prioritisation for scheduled repairs as a cause of the disruption. The Utility Regulatory Authority conducted an inspection and submitted a report to address the issues. However, the failure to implement the recommendations from the report was identified as another contributing factor. Following the water service interruption, a lack of sufficient water storage exacerbated the situation. As such, collaborative efforts with relevant ministries have commenced to increase water storage in Addu, ensuring a continuous water supply in the face of future plant-related issues.

Furthermore, Fenaka highlighted the top priority placed on meeting the needs of the public. The company expressed gratitude to Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) for technical assistance and acknowledged the support of the national airline, Maldivian, in delivering necessary equipment. Fenaka also extended apologies to citizens affected by the prolonged water interruption.
