BML to continue its wheelchair donation programme

Bank of Maldives (BML) has decided to continue its annual wheelchair donation programme targeted for people with mobility impairments across the Maldives with a donation of an additional 30 wheelchairs this year. The programme which began in 2017 has now seen the successful delivery of over 230 wheelchairs to over 90 islands, with the donation.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BML Karl Stumke stated that the company is pleased to be able to make a difference in improving the lives of many individuals and their families. He said that the wheelchair donation programme has been important in enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities and is a proud investment they made to the communities. He also expressed his thanks to the BML staff for their commitment in delivering the wheelchairs across the nation.

BML has also added special manual wheelchairs to its donation this year for children and adults who are dependent on others to get around, in addition to the motorised wheelchairs for individuals that are able to independently operate the chairs.

BML continues to support people with disabilities through various programmes. The bank is currently running a project for the refurbishment and upgrading of Home for People with Special Needs (HPSN) in Guraidhoo in Kaafu Atoll. It has also partnered with Maldives Association of Persons with Disabilities (MAPD) and Maldives Deaf Association to carry out annual programmes.
