President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated the Maldives National Anti-Corruption Academy. The academy was inaugurated at the ceremony held to mark this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day.
The academy's main objectives are to educate, train and develop human resources to investigate economic crimes and corruption. The academy also aims to contribute to the anti-corruption effort by conducting research in the field and fostering awareness within society.
One of the biggest challenges in fighting corruption is the lack of trained and qualified people. Therefore, the ACC established the academy as an institution responsible for developing professionals and raising public awareness.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Muizzu highlighted the successes in fighting corruption since the Maldives joined the United Nations (UN) Convention against Corruption. He expressed his government's commitment to give its full cooperation in every effort, big or small, against corruption and raising awareness to build a corruption-free society.
The National Anti-Corruption Academy has been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and an MoU has been signed with the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy to assist in the operation of the academy. In addition, the policies and course modules of the academy have been aligned with the vision, objectives and strategic action plan of the educational institution.
At the ceremony, President Muizzu introduced the Corruption Risk Self-Assessment Toolkit and the Maldives Anti-Corruption Trust Fund. The ceremony was followed by the National Survey on Corruption 2023 being made public.
