Gov't to elevate National Quran competition status

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has underscored the significance of the National Quran Recitation Competition as one of the country's major Islamic events, adding that the the competition will be accorded a distinguished rank and status in recognition of its importance.

As such, Minister Shaheem has announced the formation of a special committee dedicated to the fortification and enhancement of the competition. The upcoming 36th edition of the National Quran Recitation Competition is scheduled to take place from February 23 to March 2, further solidifying its legacy as a government-organised event since 1981.

Facilitated by the National Centre for the Holy Quran, the competition aims to foster the art of recitation of the Quran within the hearts of the people. Schools and institutions across the atolls are also invited to participate, with this year's edition featuring a separate category for Hafizes, students, and institutions.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's has made a commitment to not only promoting the recitation of the Quran but also expanding Islamic knowledge and fostering a love for learning among students. As such, the ministry is actively preparing various programmes to enrich Islamic knowledge, alongside launching initiatives to extend the courses provide by the Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM) to the atolls.
