Health Minister attends COP28 Climate-Health Ministerial meeting

Minister of Health Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has attended the Climate-Health Ministerial meeting during the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP28) held at Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The meeting focused on the sustainable development plans of the Maldives related to climate-health at the international level, including raising awareness on climate change and mitigation initiatives. It also discussed what can be done to address the health impacts of climate change and adopted a declaration called Declaration on Climate and Health, which is agreed upon by the health ministers of the member states.

Minister Khaleel also addressed an event on reducing the impact of climate change on mental health organised by COP28 Youth Climate Champion and Welcome Trust. On the sidelines of the meeting, Maldivian delegation will be meeting with high level officials from other countries to discuss bilateral collaborations on strengthening the health workforce and other collaborative areas.

COP28 is being attended by 70,000 participants, including heads of states, international leaders from various industries, representatives of private businesses, experts from different fields, youth and NGOs.
