President to disclose financial details of official trips

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to disclose financial details of official presidential trips.

The President's Office stated that President Muizzu has arranged for the state budget expenditures for official visits to be disclosed within 15 days of the end of each visit. The President made the decision after acknowledging that journalists have to work hard to obtain information related to presidential trips.

President Muizzu's first official visit was to Turkiye, during which he met with President Erdoğan and various senior government officials of Türkiye and discussed avenues to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. President Muizzu and President Erdoğan also oversaw the signing of the Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation Between the Maldives and Türkiye.

Afterwards, President Muizzu travelled to Dubai to participate in the Twenty-Eighth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). He gave his National Statement at the World Leaders Summit at COP28, urging nations to commit to a plan that corrects their course towards a 1.5-degree pathway.
