The Maldives has won the prestigious title of World's Leading Destination at the 2023 World Travel Awards (WTA), maintaining its winning streak for the fourth consecutive year.
The award was announced during the grand finale ceremony of the 2023 WTA, held at the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai. The Maldives emerged victorious in the face of strong competition from renowned global destinations, reaffirming its standing as a premier travel spot.
The Maldives tourism industry received several other awards during the ceremony. The country won 11 awards in the global category and 22 awards in the Indian Ocean region. Notably, the Maldives was honored with the newly-introduced Global Tourism Resilience Award, acknowledging its strategic efforts to build capacity for swift recovery and resilience following disruptions.
The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) was celebrated as the 2023 World’s Leading Tourist Board, securing the prestigious title for the second consecutive year. Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) continued its remarkable success by winning the title of 2023 World’s Leading Seaplane Operator for the seventh consecutive time and the ninth time overall.
In a notable personal achievement, former Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom was named the 2023 Travel Personality of the Year in recognition of his significant contributions to the travel and tourism industry. He also extended his thanks to all involved in the Maldivian tourism sector and dedicated his award to the collaborative efforts of tourism stakeholders, both in the Maldives and internationally.
