The Progressive Congress Coalition, comprised of the opposition coalition of Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) and the People's National Congress (PNC), has opened interested members to submit candidacies for its primary election. The election aims to determine the candidates for the position of Mayor of Male' City and three other vacant positions within the Male' City Council.
The vacancies in the Male' City Council include the Mayor's position, as well as those for Maafannu South, Medhu Henveiru, and Henveiru South, the latter being a reserved seat for women. The coalition has initiated the nomination period, which runs from November 30 to December 4 until 1500hrs.
The primary election is scheduled for December 9 to determine the candidates for the posts. Registration forms can be submitted to the PNC office or via the PNC email. Eligible voters in the primary election are members of the two coalition parties who have formally registered with either of the two parties. In addition, the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has disclosed that the by-election for the Mayor of Male' City is set to take place on January 13.
