President announces national drive to plant five million trees

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced national initiative to plant five million trees across the the country.

The president made the announcement delivering the statement at the high-level segment of the Twenty-Eighth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai,

Addressing world leaders, the president emphasised that increasing the resilience of the islands is a top priority. He conveyed that every piece of coral, every grain of sand, every fish, and every palm tree in our island nation holds value, and their loss impacts not only the economy but also our country as a whole.

The president emphasised the significance of sustainable and livable ecosystems, crucial for sustaining human life. He expressed hope for the effective functioning of the Loss and Damage Fund, highlighting its importance in providing timely assistance to those in need.

Highlighting his role as a global citizen, President Dr. Muizzu acknowledged the shared responsibility to the planet.
