COP-28 commences in Dubai, President Dr. Muizzu to address

The Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC) (COP28) summit has kicked off today in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Scheduled to run until December 12, this year's summit boasts participation from the heads of state representing 160 countries.

During the opening ceremony, Sultan Al Jaber, President of COP28 climate summit emphasised the need for global collaboration to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Maldives is set to address the summit on December 1, offering a crucial platform to share insights into Maldives' sustainable development plans with the international community. President Muizzu will engage in meetings with various leaders throughout the COP28 summit.

Ali Shareef, the Special Envoy for Climate Change, expressed the intention to explore optimal solutions for the Maldives, addressing environmental challenges and overcoming associated hurdles. These discussions will extend to exploring avenues for raising funds dedicated to addressing climate change-induced issues.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed is also among the distinguished participants at this year's COP28 summit.
