Assistant Commissioner Farhad appointed as interim police chief

Assistant Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry has been appointed as in-charge of the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan stated that Farhad assumed the temporary position after the retirement of Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdul Mannan Yoosuf. He said that Farhad was appointed to the position based on the recommendation of the police board. He also conveyed gratitude to Mannan and Deputy Commissioner of Police Ali Rasheed , who also retired, for their dedicated service to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) on behalf of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the institution.

According to the Police Service Act, if the Commissioner of Police position becomes vacant, it must be filled within 45 days from the date of vacancy. The appointment is to be made by the president following the recommendation of the minister, based on the names and information of eligible candidates provided by the police board. Only members of the police service ranked at or above Assistant Commissioner of Police are eligible for the position.
