Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has vowed to remain steadfast with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the benefit of the citizens. He made the statement at a time when former President Abdulla Yameen left the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) due to disagreements with the party leadership.
In his post on X, Vice President Latheef noted that the citizens chose President Muizzu to lead the country, as the new administration took office with immense public support. He also said that President Muizzu prioritises fulfilling the will of the people and that he will remain steadfast with the President to ensure that his administration continues to serve the public.
Cabinet ministers and some senior PPM members have voiced their support for President Muizzu's administration. Chairperson of the People's National Congress (PNC) Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who is the special advisor to the president, said that he will remain on the side of President Muizzu in accordance with the will of the people. He expressed confidence that the new administration will fulfill the expectations of the citizens.
Former President Yameen has unveiled the name and logo of his new party, the People's National Front. Yameen left PPM after claiming that the party leadership had sidelined him. Those helping him form the new party include Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, who served during his administration as Vice President and Minister of Youth and Sports, respectively.
