Gov't underscores council collaboration to revive Maldivian culture

Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has underscored the potential for collaborative efforts with councils to revive the unity of Maldivian history and culture. He made the remarks while speaking at a traditional dinner hosted by the Kamadhoo Island Council in Baa Atoll.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has committed to prioritise the revival of Maldivian history, culture, and customs. As such, he has further established a dedicated ministry to revive Maldivian nationalism, emphasising the importance of building a united society, which is a key government policy upheld by all parties in accordance with the regulations of nationalism in the Maldives.

Recognising the pivotal role of island councils in the initiative, Minister Shareef made his inaugural visit to Baa Atoll, seeking consultation on the establishment of an association aimed at empowering councils. Discussions were held with members of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) during a traditional dinner as part of a one-day workshop.

Speaking at the workshop, Minister Shareef outlined various measures identified during his visit to empower councils, highlighting the growing tourism industry in the Maldives and collaborative efforts with councils to revive cultural activities. He assured the government's full cooperation to councils in preserving the cultural activities and customs of the people, highlighting the benefits to both councils and the entire country.

Additionally, Minister Shareef stressed that the collaborative effort offers councils the opportunity to progress despite challenges. He expressed his vision of establishing a society characterised by unity and kindness across all islands in the Maldives by intensifying collaborative efforts between councils and the local populace. He also pledged to make every effort to connect people with the council in the future.
