Immigration, DNR to be overseen by homeland security ministry

The government has stated that the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology will oversee Maldives Immigration and the Department of National Registration (DNR) following the government restructuring under the new administration.

As part of the administrative changes, passport-related functions by Immigration, previously mandated by the Ministry of Defence, will be mandated under the homeland security ministry. The homeland security ministry will also oversee the National Drug Agency (NDA), the DNR, and the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT).

Additionally, the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development will oversee the Labour Relations Authority (LRA) and the National Job Centre, which were previously mandated under the Ministry of Economic Development. The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts will also oversee the National Centre for the Arts, the National Art Gallery, the National Library, the National Bureau of Classification, and the National Archives. The cultural entities were previously mandated under the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment.

The changes in ministerial responsibilities aim to streamline government operations and enhance the efficiency of public services.
