The President's Office has revealed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will chair the newly formed Visitor Economic Council.
During the first cabinet meeting, the new administration formed three Cabinet Councils, which are the Social Council, the Economic Council, and the Visitor Economic Council. They also adopted the Week 14 roadmap, which consists of the major initiatives President Muizzu will oversee in his first 100 days in office.
Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef will preside over the Social Council, while Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed will lead the Economic Council. The newly formed Visitor Economic Council will be chaired by President Muizzu. The establishment of the Visitor Economic Council aligns with President Muizzu's commitment to expanding tourism, the mainstay of the Maldives' economy. The council's mandate also includes promoting and diversifying the tourism sector.
The President's Office stated that the new administration will prioritise diversifying the tourism industry, highlighting that the industry currently depends on tourists visiting the Maldives for leisure or vacation. President Muizzu intends to focus on taking tourism to new levels by developing health, education, travel and tourism.
