The Maldives and Sri Lanka have discussed strengthening bilateral relations. The discussion was held during a meeting between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe in Kurumba Maldives.
During the meeting, President Muizzu expressed his gratitude and extended a warm welcome to President Wickremesinghe for visiting the Maldives to witness the presidential inauguration ceremony. He also said that this visit demonstrated the close bilateral ties between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Additionally, President Wickremesinghe congratulated President Muizzu on his assumption of office. Both leaders shed light on the long-standing bilateral relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka and discussed ways to further strengthen the relations between both countries. As such, both leaders discussed issues of mutual interest, including education, multiple visa entry for students under 18, and economic recovery efforts.
Furthermore, President Wickremesinghe extended an invitation to President Muizzu to make a state visit to Sri Lanka at his earliest convenience. President Muizzu accepted the invitation.
