State Councillor Shen Yiqin, the Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping, has arrived in the Maldives to attend the inauguration of President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
State Councillor Yiqin was received at Velana International Airport (VIA) by former Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer. On the X platform, he said he was honoured to receive the state councillor on her visit and that the Maldives values its strong relationship with China as one of its most important development partners.
The swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Muizzu is scheduled to be held at Republic Square at 1645hrs on November 17. Representatives from 46 countries will attend the function, including officials at various levels of government and one head of state, who is President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe. Meanwhile, Vice President of Seychelles Ahmed Afif will also attend the function along with 12 ministerial level officials from the US, Europe, Africa, Asia, and SAARC countries.
A total of 3,500 dignitaries have been invited to the swearing-in ceremony along with 1,000 members of the public. While the function is scheduled to be held at Republic Square, the venue will be moved to the Parliament building if the weather worsens.
