Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has honourably retired from the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
On Twitter, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih expressed his thanks and gratitude for Commissioner Hameed's unwavering commitment to public safety and the supremacy of the rule of law. He also noted Hameed’s immense contributions towards making a modern professional police service in line with international best practice and democratic norms. He wished Hameed success as he embarks on the next chapter of his life.
Inaugurating his retirement ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla said that he has witnessed Commissioner Hameed's efforts to make the MPS reliable and trusted by Interpol and other intelligence agencies. He added that Hameed spearheaded the difficult work of developing the new generation of police officers while leading the service.
Additionally, Minister Imran highlighted that the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement was opened during his tenure. He expressed confidence that the MPS will continue to be built into an excellent service accepted by the people with the foundation that has already been laid.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Hameed thanked those who assisted him in his efforts to develop the MPS at various levels of the institution. He also expressed gratitude towards the police officers who had shown exemplary discipline and fortitude under his leadership. He urged them to continue their work to maintain the honour and dignity of the police service, adding that he will always remain in the forefront of the police's efforts to make the Maldives a crime-free and safe place.
At the ceremony, Commissioner Hameed was presented with a plaque of honour, retirement card and police flag. A video presentation highlighting the valuable services rendered by Hameed to the police service was also shown at the ceremony.
