President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that he will establish a special media village in the Greater Male' Region. He made the remark during a meeting with journalists and media employees at the Social Centre in Male' City.
During the meeting, President-elect Muizzu acknowledged the challenges faced by the media and said that he has received many suggestions to develop the sector. He said one of the most significant challenges is paying too much in rent, while other challenges include difficulties in training journalists and financial constraints in operating newsrooms. He assured that he will provide solutions in a fair and transparent manner.
Furthermore, President-elect Muizzu said that media outlets should not have to bear such a high cost to run their businesses, but that it was not an issue that can be solved at once. Muizzu vowed to formulate and implement a plan to solve the issue, which includes establishing a media village in Male'. He also said that he will provide opportunities for journalists to develop their skills by opening up free scholarships. He also vowed to include providing financial assistance to media outlets in next year's state budget.
Additionally, President-elect Muizzu said that his government will be transparent and open and that the media will have easier access to information. He added that he will soon publish a book containing his speeches during his presidential campaign.
