Gov't asks some diplomats in overseas missions to return

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued directives for several Maldivian employees serving in diplomatic and consular missions overseas to come back to the Maldives. The decision was made in response to a request from President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The foreign ministry stated 61 employees stationed in Maldivian missions abroad are required to return to the Maldives. President-elect Dr. Muizzu has specifically called for the repatriation of certain Maldivian staff employed in diplomatic and consular missions before November 18, with a majority of them being political personnel assigned to the missions.

The primary focus of the President-elect's Office is the appointment of individuals to key positions, and a comprehensive list of current political appointees has been obtained from relevant authorities. Senior officials serving in embassies across different countries are appointed to represent the government. The directive to recall staff from embassies and missions abroad is a crucial step in the ongoing process to appoint officials to represent the new government.
