EPA asks public to report capture of migratory birds

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has requested the public to report parties that capture migratory birds.

In a press release regarding the upcoming migratory bird season, EPA stated the Maldives is an important wintering ground for many migratory birds of the Central Asian Flyway. As many of these species are in decline or already globally threatened, EPA urged the public to observe them in the wild without causing them any harm.

Additionally, EPA called on the public to help the agency find parties that capture migratory birds for commercial and recreational purposes, acknowledging the cooperation of the public in previous cases. Under the Environmental Protection and Preservation Act, those who catch or abuse migratory birds will be issued a fine between USD1,900 to USD3,200.
