MTCC completes Kunburudhoo Shore Protection Project

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the shore protection project in Kunburudhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.

The shore protection project of Kunburudhoo was contracted to MTCC by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. The state-owned company was tasked with completing the project at a cost of USD622,000. The scope of the project included dredging and reclamation operations of 24,000cbm land as well as the construction of a 430m boulder revetment, a 280m geo bag revetment, and 7,171cbm of beach replenishment operations.

Kunburudhoo has a population of 640 residents. The island is suffering from erosion in all surrounding areas, mostly in the southern and eastern sides of the island. The issue of erosion has been a challenge faced by the residents of the island for a long time, which has threatened to spoil the beauty of the island’s beach. As such, the shore protection project initiated by the government on the island has provided a solution for the issue.
