President-elect's Office concerned over HDC land transactions

The Office of the President-elect has expressed concern over the Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) engaging in business transactions regarding land plots in Hulhumale' during the transition process.

In a press release, the Office of the President-elect claimed that HDC has placed 40 different items related to business transactions regarding land plots on the agenda for the next board meeting. It stated that the land plots in Hulhumale' are the most valuable assets owned by the state, expressing concern that business transactions related to the plots are being conducted hurriedly during the transitional phase.

In particular, the Office of the President-elect expressed concern that these transactions include the lease of plots to foreign parties. It stated that such transactions would hinder the implementation of the policies of the new administration, urging all state agencies and state-owned companies to suspend such actions and act in accordance with the spirit of the transitional phase. It further assured citizens that it will take the necessary steps to prevent such incidents and protect the public interest.

Following the press release, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has instructed HDC to halt all business transactions involving land plots during the government transition. The commission has also explicitly instructed HDC to suspend any transactions related to Farukolhufushi, as it is currently investigating a case concerning the island.
