JSC appoints Chief Judges to Civil Court, High Court

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed Maryam Waheed as Chief Judge of the Civil Court and Hassan Shaheed as the Chief Judge of the High Court.

Judge Maryam Waheed was appointed after Chief Judge of the Civil Court Ahmed Nimal passed away in September. Those who applied for the vacant post were Judge Maryam Waheed and Judge Hafiza Abdul Sattar. Judge Maryam Waheed holds a Master of Sharia and a Bachelor of Laws. She was sworn in as a Judge in 2013 and has served as Magistrate of the Kaafu Atoll Gaafaru Magistrate Court and Addu City Hithadhoo Magistrate Court. She was appointed as a Judge of the Civil Court Judge in 2016.

Meanwhile, only Judge Shaheed applied for the position of Chief Judge of the High Court. He holds a Master of Judicial Science and Sharia Policy and a Bachelor's Degree in Sharia and Law. He was sworn in as a Judge in 2014 and has served as Magistrate of the Addu City Feydhoo Magistrate Court and Noonu Atoll Holhudhoo Magistrate Court and as a Judge of the Criminal Court. He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court in 2018.
