Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has said the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) remains the region's most significant intergovernmental platform, founded on the hopes and aspirations of its people. He made the statement in his message of congratulations to the new Secretary General of SAARC Md Golam Sarwar on assuming his duties.
In his message, Minister Shahid extended congratulations and warmest wishes to Secretary General Sarwar. He expressed confidence that SAARC can realise much of the potential and possibilities for achieving objectives at a time when the organisation is confronted with numerous obstacles. He added the government of the Maldives will fully support his endeavours.
In conclusion, Minister Shahid expressed hope for the sustained peace, development, and prosperity of the people of South Asia.
