Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) has released guidelines on the use of vacant spaces surrounding the flats developed in Hulhumale' Phase I.
Assistant Director at HDC Abdulla Firaq explained that the guidelines aim to allocate specific parking spaces, with the road leading to the courtyard's vacant spaces being closed off to vehicles. He highlighted challenges faced by residents due to irregularly placed objects and trees in the central area. He also said that the guidelines will empower the community to decide the purpose of the spaces, whether for gatherings, children's playgrounds, gazebos, exercise, or tree planting.
Under the new guidelines, HDC stated that plant pots must not exceed 2 feet 4 inches in height and placing plant pots and other items as a fencing mechanism is prohibited. The items in vacant spaces should also be easily movable except for trees rooted in the ground.
Additionally, HDC stated that social events, gatherings, children’s playgrounds, public amenities, and seating can be established with permission. However, prohibited activities include warehousing, storing flammable items, and accumulating trash in vacant spaces.
Furthermore, HDC outlined the removal of problematic trees, which can be replanted in a designated park in Hulhumale' with owner consent. Individuals permitted to use the area are responsible for keeping it clean and well-maintained. The permit holders are also responsible for the costs associated with planting trees and maintaining the surrounding vacant spaces.
